In the Store at Quilts 'n More

by Kathleen Allen

Wow! It's already time for school to start, to take a break for Labor Day, to do the North Texas Shop Hop, and soon to go to Quilt Market in Houston. My how time does fly when you are having fun (and getting older by the minute). We do have lots coming up in the next few months and hopefully cooler weather will be a part of it.

July was a busy month around here. The Ellis County Quilt Show was great with over 100 beautiful quilts. Our 10th Anniversary Week was unbelievable with lots of great friends dropping by to wish us well and to take advantage of our sale. August is calming down a little as many of you get kids ready for school or college. My birthday points are going well with a few of you already having 60 points and claiming your gift. You can claim your gift when you have 60 points or anytime before September 30. The points, however, will only be given for purchases made in August.

We are going to be closed in September for Labor Day, September 4-6, so that we can enjoy a three day weekend before we start the trek toward Thanksgiving and Christmas.

After the break we will be part of the North Texas Shop Hop. If you haven't been to many of the stores in the DFW area, this hop gives you a chance of visiting 13 of them over a three day period. Even if you can only do a few of the stores, you are eligible for some great prizes.

Iin the past when the kids are back in school and Labor Day is over, we have found that is when many of you get back to some serious quilting. Some of you begin thinking about Christmas gifts, some just start feeling it is almost fall and time to get ready for cooler weather, others just have an empty house and can sew without hearing "Mom, where are you?" So, no matter what your reason is, we are back to our usual offering of classes.

Special Arrangements for 1st Saturday in September

Quilts 'n More will close as we have always done for the Labor Day Weekend. We feel that we need a short break to refresh ourselves for the fall season when things get busy. We also want our employees to be able to be part of their family activities on the holidays as well. So, as a result we will be closed on Saturday through Monday, September 4-6.

Since the 4th is the first Saturday, we will not meet. Instead, we will allow you or someone else to pick up your block kit on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, September 1-3, without penalty. Any other time it will be the usual $5. We will also not have a Thimbleberries Club meeting that month.

Come Join Us for "Happy Hour"

Have you be to our Happy Hour yet? If you haven't, you must try it. We have "Happy Hour" between 3pm and 5:30pm every weekday. During that time we have some item or items on sale at a special price or discount, but only during that time. We post the special of the week on the home page of our website and on Facebook every Monday morning. We also have them posted beneath the flamingo in the store. Be sure to notice when you come in or to check Facebook each week. Of course, only one discount can be taken on an item.

You Are Invited to a Wedding

Quilts 'n More requests the honour of your presence

at the North Texas Shop Hop celebration of

"Rock Around the Block"

on Thursday-Saturday, September 9-11

at 9am-8pm

in the classroom area of Quilts 'n More

Refreshments & shopping will follow immediately after the stamping of your passport.

Yes, we look for any way to have a good time. So, the weekend after Labor Day, September 9-11, QNM will again be part of the North Texas Shop Hop which includes 13 stores in the DFW area. The theme this year is "Rock Around the Block" with each store choosing a Rock 'n Roll song and quilt block to match. Our song choice is "Going to the Chapel" with our block being "Road to the Altar". Thus, by the invitation above you can see that we are planning the wedding of the year (all we need is a bride and groom.) You will have to come see it to believe it. There will be 13 grand prizes of gift basket (valued at $300+) as well as a daily drawing for a $50 gift certificate in each store. We have maps and details at the store. Start getting your friends together and planning your route. Even if you can't do the Hop, come see us.

UFO Retreat at Our House in Milford

October 8-10 is our last UFO Retreat scheduled for 2010. It is a great time to get those gift projects done or in some cases started. The cost $185.50 One Session (Note: $50 deposit is required by September 30 for the retreat with remaining due before going to retreat. Thursday, Oct. 7, may be available for an additional $53.

Annual Columbus Day Sale

October 11 is this year's federal holiday for Columbus Day. We always set this day aside to do a special sale because we know some of you who work weekdays might be off and are able to come in to enjoy its benefits. Instead of the usual straight forward discount, we have you pick a sailor from one of Columbus' three ships. Whatever percent is written on your sailor, that's what you receive off your purchases. So, if you have never picked up a sailor, here is your chance to do it.

Mystery Show & Tell Brunch

For those doing our Mystery Step of the Month, you will receive your last step in September. Therefore, we will have our Show and Tell Brunch on Saturday, October 16, at 9:30am. Bring your tops or whatever part of your tops you have done, and we can "ooh" and "aah". We are always amazed at how different each looks yet all came from the same pattern. Don't forget to bring your cameras.

Workshops/Classes in September/October

We are gearing up for the fall season and putting more of our classes on the calendar. All are listed in our Classes section, some with pictures and more details.

We have two beginner classes scheduled--one on Saturday afternoon, September 25, and another in the evening on October 21. We will then offer a Quilting 101 on September 30 and a Binding Class on October 12.

We have added some new petscreen to our choice and will be offering the Petscreen Bag class on Saturday September 18. These would make great gifts for Christmas and once you learn the technique, your size options are endless.

Several of you have wanted to do some of the projects we offered in our summer kid's classes. Sooooo...Brenda will be teaching the Kid's Class Ruffled Purse for Adults on the morning of Saturday, September 25.

Even as I write this, I am working on scheduling a few others. Check our Classes section of our website often or join our Facebook page for announcements of a new class forming.

Still Time to Start the Home for the Holidays BOM

We are kicking off the BOM Home for the Holidays on August 28. Home for the Holidays is a 62" x 62" quilt that used a striped fabric to make the the strips and half square triangles. We still have fabric available to cut more kits so it isn't too late to join in. The cost for all 6 kits is $140 or $25 a month for six months. Check our class listing for a picture.

Are You Ready for a Challenge?

On October 2 we will have our kits ready for our annual Christmas Fabric Challenge. The process is simple--buy a $15 kit, use the fabrics in the kit any way you wish to create a small quilt or wall hanging, and submit it to QNM by November 20 for a chance to win one of three gift certificates. Quilts will hang during the month of December in the Midlothian Conference Center among the Festival of Trees display.
